Over the years the collection of the library have grown and is still growing to the extent that the aggregate holding of materials in the system is estimated at six thousand and ninety two volumes of books,with a considerable number of journals,dissertations and monographs including materials of historical nature such as encyclopedia collections. In recent time, as part of global shift from hardcopy information prints to electronic based ones, the Library is preparing to subscribe to a number of electronic databases consisting of journals,monograph etc.
With regard to automation of the library collection,arrangement is in progress to computerize our collections.Furthermore arrangement are also being made to commence digitization of some collections in the Library.The digitization will serve two purposes namely, preservation and delivery of virtual library services.The underlying philosophy of these arrangements is to provide timely, current and accurate information in support of the teaching and research mandates of the institute. LIBRARY DIVISIONS For effectiveness of service,the library is divided into two:Readers services Divisions and Technical Services Division. The former consists of circulation,security and Reference sections while the latter consists of cataloguing and classification,serials and collection Development sections. Each of the divisions and sections is headed by staff trained to offer necessary assistance and services to all categories of library users.
SERVICES AND RELATED INFORMATION. Apart from making books and journals available to readers, the library provides : Reprographic services, reference/referral services, on-going user-education programs,laminating services. The ultimate objective is to transform the library into an information Centre in which readers will be exposed to other non-book media as films,slides, graphics, projectorsetc. Borrowing and Returning of Books. (1) How to borrow a book. a. Identify the book you need from the shelves after consulting the catalogues or database. b. Ensure the book is in good condition and that no pages are missing before taking it to circulation desk. c. Open the inside back page. d. Show your library identity card and your borrower’s ticket to the library staff. e. The library staff will bring out the book card from the book pocket and insert it in your borrower’s ticket and file appropriately. f. Ensure that the date due slip is stamped correctly to avoid embarrassment at the check point. g. Do not allow others to use your ticket.
Number of loans permitted for Readers Students No student may have more than 2 library items,whether of the same,or separate works,in his possession at a time. Staff A maximum of 4 items, with same conditions as students above.
LIBRARY CLEARANCE. As a student at the end of your course work in the institute,you require a library clearance absolving you of all debt to the library as one pre-requisite claiming your certificate.Any graduating student who owes the library any fine or book will not be allowed to claim his certificate until he has been cleared by the institute Librarian acting through the head,Readers services. At the time of clearance,your library identity card and tickets must be returned to the library.
SUGGESTIONS Library users are welcome to make suggestions regarding library operations and services. For this purpose,a suggestion box is kept near the check point.
